Boaters know that used boats represent the best values. They tend to be do it yourself kind of people. That’s why I choose to go with a used boat site that only accepts ads form actual boat owners.
Just looking at the cost of a new boat and the depreciation that follows is enough to send a non-drinker running for the beer cooler. Now don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against brokers and new boats. I just prefer to let someone else lose all that money on depreciation, commissions and sales tax rather than me.
I learned how to buy and sell working as a liquidator, which means I sell older or unused assets for a living. I know how to research, price, market and sell a used or (pre-owned if you prefer) asset. Much of what I have learned is in this website; check out the seller’s and buyers advice sections.
The internet makes it easy and inexpensive to advertise. You don’t need to pay a broker 10% of the value of your boat. If you eliminate the middle man you save money. Buyers would rather deal with owners. If you’re like me you’ve been taught over and over again. If you want something done right, “Do It Yourself". After all who knows your boat better than you.
